SmartBadge - Product labels Privacy Policy
Last updated: August 26, 2026
This policy applies to merchants who install the SmartBadge - Product labels app from the Shopify App Store, and describes how Light Green AI collects, uses, and stores data for the app.

1. Who This Policy Covers
This policy applies to merchants who install the SmartBadge - Product labels app (“the app”) from the Shopify App Store, and describes how the app collects, uses, and stores data.
As a merchant, you are also the operator of your own Shopify store. Your store’s customers interact with the app indirectly — the app’s storefront tracker observes their behavior on your store. This policy explains what that means in practice for both you and your customers.
2. What Data the App Collects
Merchant account data
- Your store’s Shopify domain
- An access token issued by Shopify for your store
- The OAuth scopes you approved
- Session expiry time
- Shopify user ID, name, email, and store-owner status from the login flow
Stored in the app database and used only to authenticate requests from your store to the app.
Plan & configuration
- Selected plan tier (Free, Growth, Pro, or Scale)
- Rule and badge configuration, badge assignments, and approval decisions
Used to provide the service, enforce plan limits, and render storefront badges.
Once the app pixel is active and Shopify consent allows analytics processing, it records only the events needed by performance rules:
| Event | Data recorded |
|---|---|
| Product viewed | Shopify event ID, product ID, variant ID, timestamp |
| Product added to cart | Shopify event ID, product ID, variant ID, quantity, timestamp |
| Checkout completed | Shopify event ID, product ID, variant ID, product-line quantity, product-line amount, currency, timestamp |
Each event also records your store’s Shopify domain and a consent snapshot. The tracker does not collect search queries, collection views, checkout-started events, customer IDs, names, or emails.
The app does not record shopper names, email addresses, home addresses, phone numbers, or payment card details. Event IDs are used for deduplication, not cross-site identity.
3. How Data Is Used
Assign storefront badges
Evaluate your rules and store badge assignments in the app. Badges render through a Theme App Extension. The app does not write Shopify product tags.
Compute product metrics
Calculate views, cart adds, completed checkouts, product-line revenue, and rates from consented storefront events.
Operate your plan
Enforce plan limits and apply the configuration settings you save in the app.
Authenticate access
Use session and token data only to authenticate requests from your store to the app.
No secondary use
Event data is not used for advertising, profiling, resale, or any purpose other than your badge rules.
4. Shopify Permissions We Request
When you install SmartBadge - Product labels, you approve the following Shopify access scopes. The app does not request write_products, read_orders, or read_analytics, and cannot access customer email addresses, payment information, or shipping addresses.
| Scope | Why it is needed |
|---|---|
| read_products | To read your product catalog when evaluating badge rules |
| read_inventory | To read inventory levels used by basic rules (for example low-stock badges) |
| write_pixels | To install the storefront behavioral tracker on your store |
| read_customer_events | To receive consented storefront events (views, cart adds, and completed checkouts) |
| read_themes | To check, read-only, whether the Product Badges block is on your published theme |
Storefront event data is retained for a period that depends on your plan. Merchant session data is retained for as long as the app is installed on your store.
| Plan | Data retention |
|---|---|
| Free | 7 days |
| Growth | 14 days |
| Pro | 90 days |
| Scale | 365 days |
When you uninstall SmartBadge - Product labels, access is revoked, event ingestion stops, and badges stop rendering. Sessions, rules, badges, assignments, and active event data are scheduled for deletion from primary systems within 48 hours.
Existing Shopify product tags are unaffected because the app does not add, remove, or modify them.
You are the data controller for the behavioral data collected from your store’s visitors. The app acts as a data processor on your behalf.
You are responsible for disclosing to your customers, in your own store’s privacy policy, that behavioral tracking is active on your storefront and what it is used for. The pixel requires analytics permission and does not override a visitor’s consent choice.
You may request access to, correction of, or deletion of the data the app holds about your store by contacting us. Upon a verified deletion request, we will remove your store’s data from our systems.
If we make material changes to this policy, we will update the date at the top of this document and provide notice where required. This policy does not treat continued use of the app as consent where law requires another lawful basis or explicit consent.
